Our ambulance service has proudly served the residents of Orange and surrounding communities since 1977.  The service is owned by Orange County but is staffed, directed, and maintained by Bloomington Hospital of Orange County.  The ambulance service was originally staffed by volunteers, and is now operated through a combination of over 30 full and part time employees.  It is our goal to be the premier ambulance service in south central Indiana.

The mission of the Orange County Ambulance Service is to provide rapid, consistent and the best pre-hospital care available to the residents within our response area and beyond when requested. This is done without regard to race, sex, age, religion, socioeconomic status or ability to pay, whenever and wherever a real, potential or perceived need is identified.  Orange County Ambulance Service is proud to be an integral and reliable resource in matters concerning the protection or enhancement of the physical, mental, and social well being of the citizens of Orange and surrounding counties.

We are a 24/7/365 service with 2 full time staffed stations. One station is based at the hospital in Paoli and one is located in the ground floor of the Habig building on Maple Street in French Lick.  We also have a 3rd station in Orleans that is based out of the Orleans Fire Department station.  This station is staffed 12 hours a day 7 days a week.

The ambulance service is made up of EMT-B, A-EMT, EMT-I, and Paramedics.  EMTs are trained and certified in the latest and most up-to-date education available.  Emergency Medical Services are designed to be an extension of the emergency department.  This service is under the direction of our medical director David Beachy, D.O.  A paramedic, which is the highest level of pre-hospital care, is also available at all times.

Our ambulances use state-of-the-art equipment that allows us to provide exceptional patient care.  Some of the recent additions to our service include electronic patient care reports, computerized mapping systems, high quality hydraulic cots, and a new ambulance that arrived in 2007.  The electronic patient care reporting allows us to better track our patients and helps to provide more accurate reports.  The laptop computer in each have the same mapping software used by our dispatching agency and allows us to locate residences in the county that we might otherwise have trouble locating with the old system.  The new cots will increase patient safety as well as create a safer working environment for our associates.
