Now patients and visitors to Bloomington Hospital’s main campus will experience a new level of customer service as soon as they step out of their vehicles.  A  free shuttle service will bring guests from parking areas to hospital entrances.

• The shuttle will make regular rounds in four marked visitor parking lots on the main campus (excluding the parking garage) between 6:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. 
• There will be no shuttle service on official holidays, or on weekends
• Patients and visitors wishing to ride the shuttle will just need to stand outside their vehicle so the shuttle may pick them up.  The shuttle will also return exiting guest back to vehicles.
• Paid shuttle drivers will deliver the patient or visitor to the appropriate entrance, and give directions on how to reach specific hospital destinations.

“In health care, we understand that parking challenges are an unwelcome distraction from the overall care experience. We constantly review options to improve this aspect of our service.” says Connie Hill, director of Volunteer Services and coordinator of the new service.  “In starting a shuttle program, we will pick up our guests and deliver them to the exact place they need to go.  When finished, the shuttle will take them from the hospital exit to the door of their vehicle. It is the ultimate in customer service.”

In 2005, as part of an ongoing plan to improve parking concerns, the Bloomington Hospital Auxiliary purchased a van to be used for the shuttle service.  The Auxiliary is a volunteer organization raising funds for the hospital through Gift Shop sales and other events.
